CORI Teacher Training Module Grades 7-8
CORI is a research-based program designed to improve your students' reading comprehension, to engage your students in literacy, and to enable your students to become self-motivated readers.
The objective of CORI in the classroom is to increase the amount of engaged reading. Engaged reading refers to reading strategically (using background knowledge, questioning, organizing graphically, summarizing, and other strategies), with motivational goals of learning from text, interacting with other students to learn, experiencing hands-on activities, and gaining conceptual understanding of science through reading.
Whether you are a teacher, school administrator, or district supervisor, you can bring CORI to your school by purchasing the CORI Teacher Training Module Grades 7 - 8. Developed by John T. Guthrie, Ph. D. and Jennifer A. McPeake, this module provides an introduction to Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction. It includes an overview of Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction, 10 days of detailed CORI lesson plans, a teacher's reflection journal, and a CORI unit builder.
During this two-week module, teachers implement CORI lessons and reflect on reading strategies, motivation, science inquiry practices, and student learning (weather). The CORI unit builder consists of planning and organization charts to enable teachers to develop their own CORI units.
